As the Academy continues its hunt for a host, one seasoned professional made it perfectly clear that he doesn’t want the responsibility. Steve Martin told the L.A. Times that despite being a three-time Oscars host, the gig made him “nervous.” While some of those nerves were alleviated when he shared the stage with Alec Baldwin, Martin said he wouldn’t even return if it meant hosting with his Only Murders in the Building co-star and friend Martin Short. Martin added that if the Oscars wants to get names like Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, they need to shell out the big bucks like the Golden Globes, especially when you take into account the “several months of mental churning” that comes with hosting the show.
On the topic of the Oscars, Jackpot! actor John Cena said that his barely-there appearance on last year’s show was one of his most awkward memories — even more than the over-the-top sex scene he filmed with Amy Schumer for 2015’s Trainwreck. Cena joined Shannon Sharpe on the Club Shay Shay podcast to reveal that it was mildly unpleasant to present an award in front of “decorated performers, producers (and) directors” with nothing but an index card and a dream. He lamented that he hasn’t worked his way up to meet many of these people, and the first time they’re in the same room together he had his “balls in the wind.”
The comedians on the timeline are certainly baring it all with some wickedly hilarious tweets. Today’s funniest include those about a friend to cows, extremely Canadian graffiti and shoes good enough to eat.
