The industry may favor gritty limited series and needless reboots, but the King of Sitcoms is doing whatever he can to keep the genre from becoming obsolete. During a new press tour, Chuck Lorre gave the proverbial middle finger to the idea that TV executives seem to be uninterested in the sitcom. The man behind iconic hits like Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory vowed to “pursue things that (he’s) excited about that (he) thinks are wonderful.” In Lorre’s case, that excitement comes from collaborating with people he loves and making viewers laugh. The prolific producer hopes to extend that streak with his upcoming Young Sheldon spin-off Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage due out this fall.
Elsewhere, Timothée Chalamet is leaving it all on the table — the ping-pong table, that is. The young phenom is attached to produce and star in Josh Safdie’s Marty Supreme. In it, he will play a fictionalized version of professional ping-pong player and eccentric sports legend Marty Reisman. Safdie’s film about “America’s greatest table tennis champion and hustler” will be his first film since Uncut Gems and creatively parting ways with his brother Benny.
Meanwhile, the timeline is acing hysterical tweets per usual. Today’s funniest include those about a blazed Pokémon, a perk of helping your friends move and a zesty name for a baby boy.
