After nearly a decade away from the show as its full-time host, Comedy Central announced that Jon Stewart is returning to The Daily Show for a limited-time engagement. Stewart, who made himself a household name with a 16-year stint as Daily Show host starting in 1999, will take up the desk every Monday as one of the faces tasked with filling the vacuum that his successor Trevor Noah created when he stepped down as the show’s host in 2022. Stewart’s temporary tenure will last through the election (and possibly beyond) as he covers all the insane headlines that are sure to come out of another Trump run for the White House.
Meanwhile, Netflix is taking a page out of the Warner Bros. playbook and docking its mothership. That is, the streamer has seemingly decided against releasing the nearly-completed Halle Berry sci-fi vehicle The Mothership, which was filmed back in 2021. The streamer’s decision to do so was reportedly influenced by a “lengthy post-production process” filled with significant reshoots. Whatever the case may be, Netflix is also throwing away a slam-dunk viral tweet opportunity to call the X-Men actress “mother.”
As the timeline celebrates Stewart’s return and debates the plot against Berry, a number of hilarious tweets have popped up as well. Today’s funniest ones include those about an Irish goldmine, the plane passengers owed an apology and the power of a particular video game soundtrack.
