Dirty Jokes from Saturday Morning Cartoons That Went Over Our Heads as Kids

Like, for example, Rocko’s favorite chicken restaurant

On Animaniacs, whenever Yakko looked to the camera and said “Goodnight, everybody!” it was a signal to the audience that there was a dirty joke hidden in there somewhere. The Warners weren’t the only ones to do it either, as lots of kids cartoons loved to stick subtle, inappropriate jokes in their episodes. Here are 15 dirty jokes from Saturday morning cartoons that hopefully went over your head as a kid…

‘There’s Baloney in Our Slacks!’

Sometimes, Animaniacs wasn’t even subtle about its perverted little gags. For example, right in the opening theme for every episode, there’s a line that goes, “We’re zany to the max, there’s baloney in our slacks!” Despite them showing sliced baloney, it’s still a pretty obvious dick joke.

Rocko’s Extended Stay

In an episode of Rocko’s Modern Life, Rocko and Heffer need a place to stay, so they check into a motel named “No Tell Motel.” The clerk tells them they’ll have to wait 20 minutes for a vacancy, and when they say they want the room for the entire night, he whistles in bewilderment.

‘Is That All You Can Think Of!?’

Rocko wasn’t the only Nicktoon rife with dirty jokes, as Ren and Stimpy also got in on the action. In “Son of Stimpy,” Stimpy is awaiting the return of his missing son (which just happens to be a fart), and Ren seductively points to the mistletoe hanging above their head. Enraged, Stimpy shouts, “Gosh darn it, Ren, is that all you can think of!?!?”

Flash’s Love Life

Dirty jokes weren’t limited to comedic cartoons either. In the 2001 Justice League cartoon, there’s a scene where the Flash is bragging to Hawkgirl about being “the fastest man alive.” Unimpressed she says, “Which might explain why you can’t get a date.”

‘It’s Called a Sextant’

The Cartoon Network series Ed, Edd n Eddy snuck in the occasional dirty joke too, like when Edd is explaining what a sextant is, all Ed and Eddy can do is laugh hysterically.

That’s ‘Conjugate’ — Not ‘Consummate’

A great dirty joke in Animaniacs came when the Yakko, Wakko and Dot went to school for the first time. When the teacher moves on to grammar, she says, “Let’s move on to sentence structure. First, verbs. Yakko, can you conjugate?” Yakko’s reply: “Who, me? I’ve never even kissed a girl.”

Chokey Chicken

While “choke the chicken” isn’t the most widely used innuendo for masturbation, it’s still pretty nuts that the favorite restaurant for the gang on Rocko’s Modern Life was “Chokey Chicken.” Nickelodeon made them change it after a couple of seasons to “Chewy Chicken.”

Don’t Drop the Doubloons

The occasional dirty gag certainly wasn’t beneath SpongeBob, like in the episode where he’s playing pirates with Gary, his pet snail. He pretends his tub is a treasure chest and that the bars of soap are doubloons. As he hands them to Gary, he winks and says, “Don’t drop ‘em.”

‘Eddy’s Magazines’

Ed, Edd n Eddy has an entire episode dedicated to Eddy freaking out because his porn mags are missing. We never see the content of his magazines, but with titles like Chix and Jiggy Jiggy, it’s pretty clear what they are. He even reads them with a box of tissues nearby.

‘Love Is In the Air. Can’t You Just Smell It?’

At the end of an episode of The Powerpuff Girls, the villain Mojo Jojo is thrown in prison with a beefy-looking cellmate who’s clearly attracted to the evil monkey. The narrator says “Love is in the air. Can’t you just smell it?” as the bar to the cell slides shut.

Literally Everything in ‘Johnny Bravo’

Pretty much the entire premise of Johnny Bravo was inappropriate for kids, as it’s really just about a horny dude trying to get laid. But if you’re looking for a specific example, here’s Johnny asking a sexy doctor if she wants to “play doctor.”

‘Honey, I Don’t Think That’s Gonna Fit’

In an episode of Dexter’s Laboratory, there’s a scene where Dexter’s mom and dad are just off camera and all we see is their arms and legs intertwined. Dexter’s mom says, “Honey, I don’t think that’s gonna fit,” and they zoom out and they’re only playing a game of Twister.

Deep Sea Porn

There was also that time when Gary walked in on SpongeBob luridly watching a dancing sea anemone. When he gets caught, SpongeBob quickly changes the channel to a football game.

Spank the Monkey

Yet another masturbation reference from Rocko’s Modern Life, where Rocko, Heffer and Filburt play the board game Spank the Monkey.

Finger Prince

This is maybe the dirtiest joke to ever run on a Saturday morning cartoon. In an Animaniacs sketch where the Warners are playing detective, Yakko tells Dot to “dust for prints.” A moment later, she arrives with pop star Prince in hand, having mistaken “prints” for “prince.” Yakko corrects her and says “No, finger prints,” then Dot looks at Prince and says to the camera, “I don’t think so.”

Goodnight, everybody!
